How to make a Favicon

In this video, we show how you can make a simple favicon to use in your website through the built-in Windows 10 app, Paint 3D. This is a free and easy way that takes just under 3 minutes. Enjoy!

  1. Open the Paint 3D app, by clicking the Magnifier button located on the left side of your Taskbar. Type Paint 3D and press Enter.
  2. On the Welcome screen, click the New button.
  3. Click the Canvas tool from the top toolbar. On the Resize Canvas section, set the Width and Height both at 150 pixels.
  4. Set the Transparent Canvas toggle to On.
  5. Select the 3D shape tool from the top toolbar, and click the Get More Models button. Use the search box to search for your desired shape or object as your favicon. Click on it and drag it to set it on your canvas.
  6. Click the Brushes tool on the top toolbar, and click the Fill button. Select your desired color and then click on the 3D shape to fill it with that colour.
  7. When you are done, to save the favicon, click the Menu button on the upper right corner, and click the Export File option from the menu. Select the 2D-PNG file option.
  8. Name the file favicon and click the Save button.
  9. On some websites, the PNG format is acceptable. But for some scripts, the ICO format is needed. To convert the file from PNG to ICO, make sure the known file extensions are visible.
  10. Right-click on your new favicon file and click the Rename option.
  11. Rename the favicon.png to favicon.ico. Press Enter. Click Yes at the pop-up message dialog.
  12. Your favicon is now ready for upload.
