Learn how to make a screen recording in Windows 10 for free. All you need is either a few keyboard shortcuts for a game play recording, or the latest Microsoft Office for recording absolutely everything on your screen.
To Record a Game with Audio
- Make sure you have your game open.
- Press the Windows + G combination on your keyboard to open the Xbox Game Capture toolbox.
- You can adjust the settings, whether you want to include a microphone recording for a voice over, or to broadcast live for your Xbox friends etc. Click the Record button when ready.
- Click the Stop button on the right side of the screen to stop the recording.
- Click the Game Clip Recorded notification to open the Xbox Captures window.
- From here you can choose to rename, trim or delete the recorded video of your game play. Click Open Folder to see the saved video.
Record Everything on the Screen
- Open Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Open a blank presentation (or a saved presentation, if you want the captured video included in it, just make sure you create a new slide for it).
- Navigate to the Insert tab and click on Screen Recording.
- You can again disable or enable the Mic audio recording if you also want to do a voiceover, or if you want to include the Mouse Pointer in the recording.
- You can drag an area to record, or press the combination of Shift + Windows + F keys on your keyboard to capture the Full Screen.
- Press the Record when ready. The toolbox will disappear and you will be given a countdown of 3 seconds to get ready to record.
- Press the combination of Shift + Windows + Q keys on your keyboard to stop recording.
- You will be returned to the PowerPoint presentation, where the captured video will be saved. If you recorded a long video, it might take a few seconds to appear. Be patient.
- You can edit this video in your presentation, just as you would with any other object in a PowerPoint presentation. You can also right-click and click the Trim button to trim the video.
- Now you can either use it in your presentation, or you can save this video file separately as a MP4 file by right-clicking to bring up the context menu, and click Save Media as.
- You will now be shown the window where you can choose where to save it and give it a name.
- Click the Save button.
